Summer Solstice
Happy Summer Solstice everyone! I hope you had a beautiful day full of sunshine!
There is nothing quite like laying under the sun and feeling the warmth envelop me. I am getting chills just thinking about it now! Summer is my favorite season and it has commenced! I could not be happier!!
I love the beach. I love the fireflies. I love the amount of daylight. I love seeing people outside. I love driving with the windows down and the music loud. I love the wind in my hair. I love the bonfires. I love sitting on the porch. I love listening to the birds sing. I love watching my flowers grow. I love the smell of summer. I love so many things about this time of year and I am incredibly excited to be experiencing it for another year!
After my most recent infusion, I brought a bouquet of flowers home and it turns out the bouquet had flowers that were toxic to cats, so they were thrown out soon after coming home. My little Georgia had fallen sick due to this bouquet, so they had to go. I had shared that story with somebody, just trying to figure out how to come to terms with the situation. How could I have done this to her? I felt ashamed. I shared my feelings with her without thinking anything beyond just wanting to tell somebody what happened. This weekend, I hosted a movie night and that same woman brought me flowers! I open my door to welcome her inside and what does she have in her hands? A bouquet of cat safe flowers! Not only that, they were snapdragons! She said “Sorry, they were all out of sunflowers,” (I mentioned I love sunflowers when I was telling her what happened). I have never spoken to anyone, including her, about the special place in my heart that snapdragons hold, so that was a Solstice surprise!
Growing up, my grandma planted snapdragons in her yard every year. I remember sitting in her yard, snapping them open and closed all summer long. Now, whenever I see them, I think of her. She passed on many years ago, so I haven’t done my snapdragon summer ritual in a very long time. I have never bought nor been gifted snapdragons before and I feel like this was the perfect time for them! Maybe my grandma nudged her from the beyond towards the snapdragons, who knows!
From a bouquet that brought me to tears by causing harm to my loved one, to a bouquet that brought me to tears by reminding me of sweet memories of a loved one- this was the best Solstice gift a girl could receive!
Wishing you a wonderful summer season and so much love.
Stay well my friend,
Grace 💋
